RICK @ the RACES (24/25 Nov 2012)
This past weekend was the first time in many months that I hadn’t got an event on my agenda, so this weeks report will be a brief one.
The racing season in my area has been over for a while, but there were a couple of events further afield that caught my interest.
I have to admit, one of them was ‘doable’, and I keep promising myself that one of these days , I’ll make it there, but sadly not this year. The Wall Stadium in New Jersey always puts on a mixture of races each year to coincide with the USA Thanksgiving weekend. Even though it’s almost a ten hour drive from my place in Cornwall , Ontario, I was really tempted to head down there, but never did ! Another time , I guess !
The other event that was going on, was way out of my reach, so had to be content to follow it on TV. The final round of the F1 Grand Prix series was taking place at Interlagos, Brazil where the championship was yet to be decided.
The race was exciting, and full of action , but unfortunately came to a premature ending when it started to pour with rain. It turned out to be a good day for Great Britain with Jenson Button taking the race win while Germany’s Sebastian Vettel got his third World Championship for the British Red Bull Team. It makes me really proud that the World Championship winning team is based in my old home town of Milton Keynes ! Wish I could get back to MK for the celebrations !
Also taking place this weekend in Niagara Falls, it was the Southern Ontario Sprint Car awards, and my good friend Lee Ladouceur ( son of former 358 Modified Mr Dirt, Laurent, and brother of this years DIRTCAR Pro stock Champion, Joey) was there to pick up his 2012 Championship win . Congrats to you Lee !
As you can imagine, the weekend was a quiet one, but it turned out productive. In between watching a Sunday afternoon hockey game between the Cornwall Colts and the Ottawa Jr Senators, I managed to get Episode 29 of my ‘RETRO REPORT’ completed. This one covers the year 1995 , my first full year in Canada, where I visit the Capital City Speedway, Can Am, and Brockville for the first time… check it out on the RETRO COLUMN in www.rickattheraces.com
