RICK @ the RACES (17 Nov 2013)
This weeks report will be another short and sweet one, as my long winter break from the race tracks takes a grip.
Just like it was last weekend, my racing fix came via the TV screen.
The worlds top race car drivers were in America this week for the F1 USA Grand Prix, and on Sunday afternoon , live coverage from the ‘Circuit of the Americas’ in Austin, Texas was on NBC.
I made myself comfortable to watch the action.
These days, now I’m living in ‘NASCAR’ dominated North America, I have to follow auto racing’s premier division from a distance, so don’t have any particular favorites, but as a ‘Brit’ who spent much of his life in the Milton Keynes area, I always check out the fortunes of the local Red Bull Team or top English driver Lewis Hamilton.
This was only the second ever running of the Grand Prix at this superb new circuit in Austin and Lewis won the first ever race there in 2012. This year , his Mercedes was no match for the Red Bull and World Champion Sebastian Vettel took yet another win for my ‘local’ race team .
Results , First was Germany’s Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) , second Switzerlands , Romain Grosjean (Lotus), third was Australia’s Mark Webber (Red Bull), fourth England’s Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and fifth was Spain’s Fernando Alonso (Ferarri).
With a bit of luck, I may get to see the Circuit of Americas in a few weeks time when I will be in Austin for my grandson Benji’s first birthday.
Meanwhile on the domestic front, it was the final race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup from Homestead in Florida. There was also coverage from that race on the Sunday, but I chose to give the live show a miss, and watch the less torcherous highlights, that were aired later on SPEED. Denny Hamlin won the race, while Jimmie Johnson clocked up another championship.
