This weeks report will be a short one, as Mother Nature reduced my racing diet to just two events, even though salvation came on Tuesday with an added bonus.

Leading up to the weekend, we had plenty of rain in my area, and when Friday arrived, it was still overcast and pretty gloomy. It wasn’t raining but I had my doubts if the regular Friday night show at the Mohawk International Raceway would take place.

At about 6-00 pm I decided to take the gamble, and head over the bridge from Cornwall, Ont to Hogansburg NY, and no sooner had I got through the US Customs, raindrops appeared on my windshield. It was short-lived and five minutes later when I pulled in to the Speedway, the sprinkles had stopped.

It stayed unsettled all night, so I only stayed out on the middle taking pics for the heats.

08202014f 08202014aI decided to watch the Features from the grandstand for a change.

First up, as usual, was for the Bandits, where Matt Zira got another win, as did Jesse Hudson in the Mod Lites.

Carey Terrance made easy work of the Modified Feature , and he also scored a repeat victory.

The Pro Stocks were also on the nights program for a 30 lap Mohawk Race Parts Series race. This was won by Stephane Lebrun, who’s also no stranger to Victory Lane.08202014d

We had to wait for the Sportsman Feature before we got a new winner. All the favourites had to play second fiddle to former Pro Stock pilot Ricky Thompson who netted his first career win in this division.08202014e

The uncertain weather had prompted management to move the show along quickly, and by 10-15 pm I was heading for home. By 11-00 pm, I was indoors , and  I’d got the Victory shots edited, which were soon out on Face Book.

The rain returned to the Cornwall area on Saturday , and much of Eastern Ontario too. I purposely waited until late in the afternoon before heading off to my regular Saturday night date at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. My prudence paid off, because just five minutes before my planned departure time of 4-00pm, I had word that the evenings races were cancelled. This meant a rare summer Saturday at home, catching up with work and relaxing with a beer.

With all the rain we got around Cornwall on Saturday , this allso put doubt in my mind about the Sunday night show at the Cornwall Motor Speedway .

I had a good lay in on Sunday morning , and when I emerged from my bed at 10-30 am, and looked outside, things appeared promising. It was dry, but cloudy and the positive words I heard from the track, sounded encouraging.

Speedway staff had been busy preparing the track and had spent most of the day doing so. Their labours were not in vain, and by start time, the track surface wasn’t looking too bad.

Just like the M.I.R on Friday, the threat of more rain helped to speed things on, and the full show was over by 10-15 pm.

We had few new faces in Victory Lane , with the Ministock Feature going to Francis Desjardins, the Semi Pro to Adam Delormier and the Pro Stock to Charles-David Beauchamp.

08202014kIt was de ja vu in the Modified and Sportsman Features with M.I.R winners , Carey Terrance and Ricky Thompson getting the weekend double.

I thought my racing week was over, until I received a phone call from work on Monday night. Things were really quiet, and I was asked to take Tuesday off. It was a lovely sunny day in the month of August, so I didn’t really mind.

I took a little trip over to Massena NY in the afternoon , where I watched a ship go through the Eisenhower Lock 08202014o,then went for stroll on the beach at the Robert Moses Park , followed by a bit of Walmart shopping before going home.08202014p

In the evening I made my first visit to the Cornwall Dirt Raceway Park, where the show consisted of Dirt Demons, Lawn Tractors, Kids Karts and for the first time, Radio Controlled cars.
