Tim Sears Jr gets his first SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES win (26th August 2025 BLOG)
The last Blog ended on Friday the 15th of August after another busy period of racing.
I had a lot more events on the horizon, so I stayed local on Saturday the 16th and attended the races at the Brockville Ontario Speedway.
As I’ve been doing recently in my efforts to ‘slow up’ a bit , I planned to make my exit, as soon as the Modified feature was over.
They shared the program with Sportsman , Limited Sportsman , Pro Stocks, Crate Sprints and Mini Stocks

The first of the features was for the Mini Stocks

Jamie Larocque won this one.
Then it was time for the Sportsman main event

No surprise to see Bobby Herrington pick up another feature win.
The Modifieds were up next for their feature .
The early leader was Gabriel Cyr, and once Jarrett Herbison got on his tail, a good battle developed .

When Herbison managed to get passed , he stayed there until the checkers

That was it, the Modifieds were done, and my cue to make an exit.
I awoke Sunday morning (17th Aug) to heavy rain.
It was like that for most of the day, and only a matter of time before I got the notification that the Cornwall Motor Speedway had cancelled the evening races.
So , I had a ‘day off’ which gave me the much needed time to get ready for my next little sortie. I was heading south again the next morning.
The SUPER DIRTCAR Series were having their SUMMER FAST Series in Central New York.
Weedsport Speedway , Sunday the 17th (Clashing with Cornwall) Brewerton Speedway, Monday 18th, Land Of Legends (Canandaigua) 19th and Fulton Speedway on the 20th. My plans were to attend Brewerton and Canandaigua.
After there, I’d be heading further south.
So, I left my home in Cornwall, Ontario around mid morning on Monday and by 3-00 pm I was checking in to the Red Roof Inn, Fulton NY. This would be my base for two nights.
It’s about a 30 minute drive from the Brewerton Speedway and I was parked up at the track soon after 4-00pm.
As well as the SUPER DIRTCAR SERIES for the Big Block Modifieds

Mod Lites were on the program too ,

plus a DIRTCAR SERIES for the Pro Stocks.
A few of my locals made the trip , including Marc Lalonde .

DirtCar boss, Brian Carter from Charlotte NC was there with his car ,
Once the racing got underway I joined Alex Bruce and Nick Meka on turn three and four..

It was perfect weather and the racing was good

Once all the heat races and Last Chance Qualifiers were in the books, it was time for the first feature of the night, which was the Series race for the Pro Stocks.

This was won by Rich Crane.
The Big race for the Modifieds was up next

This turned out to be one of the best Super DirtCar Series races I’ve seen for a long time.
The end result was in doubt right to the checkers, It could of been any one of six drivers get the win as the race drew to a close .

Early leader was Peter Britten who had won the previous nights SDS race at Weedsport. Alex Yankowski was up there too , with Jimmy Phelps chasing . Phelps got himself to the front and briefly took charge.
Meanwhile , Mat Williamson and Tim Sears Jr were moving into contention , with Amey Holland not far behind.

Williamson then passed Phelps for the lead . It looked like we were in for another Williamson win , but with a just few laps to go the fast moving Sears homed in on both of them. As he passed Williamson, a battle emerged between the two .

A repass by Williamson didn’t happen , and Sears went on to take his first Super DirtCar Series win.

Phelps remained in third place to join them on the podium.

Meanwhile , Amy Holland stayed with them to get fourth.
Once the Victory Lane pics were done, I skipped the final race of the night, the Mod Lite feature and headed back to my hotel in Fulton.
The next day (Tuesday) was day three of Summer Fast , and the event was taking place at the Land of Legends in Canandaigua , which was just over an hour away. (I still prefer to call it by its old name, the Canandaigua Speedway)
There was no rush to leave the hotel as I’d reserved it for two nights.
The warm and sunny weather continued so I was happy to stay in the room with the AC running until it was time to leave.
Once I arrived at the track , I chilled out in my lawn chair beside the car until the race cars were called for warm ups.
I based myself on turn three and four where I’d shot from on previous visits .

They also had 360 Sprint Cars on the program .

For the time trials I tried shooting on the back straight..

There’d been talk earlier , of a possible rain shower later that night.
Not when the racing was about to start ! , but just as the Sprint Cars were to begin their heat races , we felt a few spots that gradually got heavier.
I left the infield to take shelter in the pits .
It wasn’t long before the inevitable cancelation call was made.
So, it was back to my hotel in Fulton .
As I mentioned earlier I had no plans to stay in New York for Wednesday’s race at the nearby Fulton Speedway as I intended to head further south, early the next morning .
I was bound for my daughter Carla’s place in Willow Springs, near Raleigh in North Carolina.
When I woke in the early hours to set off, it was pouring with rain and it stayed like that until I got into Pennsylvania. It was torrential, and the roads were treacherous.
By mid morning , The expected cancelation notice for the Fulton’s final edition of Summer Fast had been been posted on social media. This was no surprise considering what I experienced when I left the hotel.
By 6-30 pm . I was pulling into Carla’s driveway.
It had been a terrible drive down there, what with the heavy traffic, and construction delays .
It was nice to get settled in and have a few days of relaxation.
On Thursday I didn’t do too much.
Carla drove me to Lillington where she keeps her rescue horse Lola .

In the evening we all went out for a family meal at the Olive Garden in Holly Springs.
Friday was another lazy day when I took my grandaughter Sophia to an indoor Crazy Golf complex , followed by lunch at the local Golden Coral buffet.

In the evening Sophia was attending one of her friends Birthday parties, so Carla, Alex , and my grandson Benji joined me for visit to the Wake County Speedway. It’s only a 20 minute drive from Willow Springs

It was nice to meet up with promotor Charlie Hansen again.

He is very much a ‘hands on’ type of promotor who gets very involved, he has fun with the fans during the down time you get between track side action.

One thing that’s very popular, is his walk around the grandstands with a mobile Karaoke kit. It made it a fun night for young and old.
They also had a ‘candy toss’ for the kids beside the flag stand.
Before the opening ceremonies they had a very good rock band doing a few numbers in Victory Lane

I’ve met Charlie on my previous visits to the Wake County Speedway and he told me that his racing roots were with dirt modifieds from the North East . He was raised in the Kingston area of NY state and used to be regular racegoer at Acord Speedway and the Orange County Fair Speedway , Middletown.
I watched the pre race qualifying races in the grandstand with the family, before moving to the middle with my camera for the features.
This was the program

The headline division were the Late Models which had two 40 lap features.
Both were won by Landon Huffman

The second Late Model feature ended the night, but before leaving we stopped to have a chat with Charlie by the flag stand .
My agenda for Saturday , and the main reason for my visit to the family , was this .

Sophia has recently joined a music group , and on this occasion she was making her first stage performance in downtown Raleigh .
I just had to be there .
She was singing three songs during their set, and two of them were favorites of mine .
The Locomotion , a big hit by Little Eva, and Proud Mary , a classic made famous by Creedence Clearwater Revival
So, we were all there to give her our support

She did really well and we are all proud of her

Sunday the 24th of August was my day to return home.
After the terrible drive I’d experienced getting down there, I decided to make an early morning start .
I left Willow Springs at 6-00 am , which was a big contrast to the busy roads I encountered on Wednesday.
By 9-00 am I had cleared Richmond , Virginia and the usual bottle neck between there and Fredricksburg was non existent . I had plain sailing to over to Warrenton and to the 1 81 near Winchester.
I was making such good progress , I thought to myself I may get back to Cornwall before 9-00pm , maybe , in time to catch the Modified feature at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.
I messaged my friend Chanty who I knew would be at the track . She kept me up to date with how the nights schedule was going .
I arrived at the 1000 Island border crossing before 7-00 pm and to my dismay , I had a 30 minute delay. Once back on the road, I was about ten minutes away from the Speedway when Chanty messaged me ” the Sportsman were lining up for their feature. ”
This was the race before the Modifieds.
I parked up my car and was lucky enough to catch a staff member , passing by on a golf kart. He then taxied me and my camera gear to the pits , where I watched as Bobby Herrington took another win in the Sportsman feature.
I was out on the track just right for the big race , and it wasn’t long before I was clicking pictures in my usual spot.

The race was won by Louie Jackson Jr .

Apparently , rain was expected, so Victory Lane ceremonies were postponed until the end of the night, for Sportsman, Modifieds , and the last remaining features (Mini Stock and Rookie Sportsman) .

By the time we got round to taking Bobby Herrington’s pics , he was out of his racing suit (it was a was another warm night.

The Rookie Sportsman winner was Kyle Kudrinko

Travis Lamarche was the Mini Stock winner
It was now time to head back home , and un pack the car from my week away.
