Steve Bernier wins at the Canadian Super Dirt Weekend 16th October 2025
This week was another busy one with the action centered locally at my nearby Cornwall Motor Speedway. It was their annual Canadian SUPER DIRT WEEKEND .
This was a three day event starting on Friday through to Sunday .
The first two days, clashed with SUPER DIRT WEEK in Oswego NY , but Sunday’s show was a solus .
On Thursday afternoon I went along to the track to see the preparations going on.

Already some of the race teams and campers had arrived , and Ron Morin was out with the rake , grooming the track.

I returned home for a bit of ‘calm before the storm’ as the saying goes.
Soon after lunch on Friday , I was back there to watch the weekend unfold
While checking out the drivers meeting , one of my Sportsman driver buddies sent me this , I didn’t realize he took it .

Friday’s show consisted of 358 Modifieds, Sportsman and Mini Stocks.
A few familiar faces were missing , as some teams chose to go to Oswego, but even so, there was still a very large car count as non-regular invaders had turned up.

There were 190 cars registered and the pits and infield were full. The overflow pits on Cornwall Centre Rd were also being used.

The first of the Features were for the Modifieds .
Early front runners were Lucas Fuller and David Farraway , a long distance visitor to the track, from the Hamilton, Ontario area. (I guess you could say he traveled from ‘Far away’

Luke Whitteker was close behind and was soon taking command .

He was then challenged and passed by Carey Terrance.

Terrance stayed up front while Whitteker had to deal with the fast moving David Hebert .

They ducked and dived between back markers right up to the end.
At the checkers it was Terrance from Whitteker followed by Hebert

The Sportsman were up next .

Bobby Herrington made easy work of this one , with his main opposition being at Oswego. (Shane Pecore, Tristan Ladouceur, Donovan Lussier and Cody McPherson)

The Mini Stock feature ended the night with a win for Mathieu Voghel.

That was it , the first night was over, one down , two to go .
Victory Lane pics were all done by about 10-45 pm and I was back home by about 11-00 pm. With a busy weekend like this, it’s what I needed .
Meanwhile , down in Oswego , N.Y , Mat Williamson from Ontario ,Canada , won the ‘Salute to the Troops ‘ DIRTCAR 358 Modified race .
I was back at the track again on Saturday by about 12-00 pm , for the slightly earlier start time.
The DirtCar Pro stocks were joining the program , making it a four division night.

The first of the features was for the Mini Stocks.

This was won by Travis Lamarche.
My good friend Todd Ferguson, father of Modified driver, Johnathan and owner of SPLASH Well Drilling , the nights sponsors , presented Travis with his trophy.
The Sportsman then followed for their main event .

As expected, we had another win for Bobby Herrington.

The Modified 50 lap feature was up next .

Early leader was Steve Bernier but the fast moving Sebastien Gougeon was soon starting to challenge him.

The duel went on for most of the race , as Mike Maresca was pursuing both of them .

Once Gougeon got to the front he stayed there until the checkers. Maresca followed Bernier to take third.

Sebastien has been around for quite a few years , and he told me afterwards that in all of his 23 years of racing , this was his first Victory at Cornwall.
The last race of the night was for the Pro Stocks .

This was a good race to watch with a lot of lead changing early on.
As it got nearer to the checkers Burton Ward looked to be the likely winner , until Jocelyn Roy edged passed for the win .

His daughter Roxanne was also in the race and she came to join him in Victory Lane.

It was another early finish to the night , and I was home soon after 10-00pm .
It gave me plenty of time to get some editing done before Sunday’s races.
MEANWHILE down in Oswego, NY , Mat Williamson got the SUPER DIRT WEEK double , by winning Saturday nights 200 lap Big Block race.
Sunday was upon us , and the final day of Cornwall’s Canadian SUPER DIRT WEEKEND.
With SUPER DIRT WEEK in Oswego now concluded , there was much speculation as to whether extra drivers would turn up from down there .
A few emerged with the most notable being Jackson Gill

and Felix Roy.

Unfortunately Mat Williamson was not one of them.
The program for the day returned to just three divisions format.
The Mini Stocks would be absent this time round, and the Pro Stocks would once again be joining the 358 Modifieds and Sportsman .

The headline event of the day was the 100 lapper for the Modifieds which was the first of the three features , which followed intermission.
During the break and prior to the front stretch redraws , track staff gathered to honor the retiring Brian Heggarty .
HAPPY RETIREMENT to Brian Hegarty after 33 years of service as an official at the Cornwall Motor Speedway . You did a great Job Brian, we’ll all miss you

Here he is by the flag stand accompanied by other track officials.

After the break it was time for the main event, the 100 lap Modified feature .
The track was in great shape giving us plenty of three wide action.

David Farraway who started on pole capitalized on that, and became the early leader.

Steve Bernier , who’d drawn fourth on the grid , wasn’t letting him get away , and before too long, had taken the lead . Corey Wheeler soon followed accompanied by Ryan Stabler and Mike Maresca.

Bernier made easy work of the back markers and went on to take the checkers.

Wheeler took second place and Stabler was third

Next up we had the big race for the Sportsman .

Bobby Herrington had a bit more competition for this one on the final night.

Josh Jock, who’d been at Oswego for the previous two nights, got the win this time .

The Canadian SUPER DIRTWEEKEND at the Cornwall Motor Speedway came to an end with the Pro Stock Feature .

Long distance traveler , Tommy Lizotte 777, from La Pocatiere, which is located North of Quebec City got a well deserved victory in this one.

This race was also happened to be the final round of the PM Promotions Pro Stock Series and Marc Lalonde was crowned champion.

Marc pictured with Martin Belanger (CMS) and Courtney King (MIR ).
At this point we had another retirement to acknowledge .
HAPPY RETIREMENT to Marc Lalonde.

I’ve known Marc and his lovely wife Josee for many years .
I first began taking pictures of him holding the checkered flag around 20 years ago, when he was competing in the Street Stocks .

This continued as he moved up to the Pro Stock division.
He’s always been a great ambassador for this class, following the DIRTCAR Pro Stock SERIES where ever it went. Here he is at Charlotte NC in 2023.

He announced at the start of the year, this was to be his final season, and on this night at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, it was his last race . (We’ll have to see about that LOL, I’ve heard that said by so many drivers in the past)
Marc ended up his career by picking up yet another win, the aforementioned PM Promotions Series

Good Luck to Marc and Josee who plan to travel and do other quality things .
I’m going to miss you both at the tracks, and not to mention, your race teams annual ‘Spaghetti Supper’ each winter.
So that was it , the 2025 edition of the CANADIAN SUPER DIRTWEEKEND was over for this year.
