SEASON OPENERS at the B.O.S and C.M.S (15th May 2025 BLOG)

Season Openers at the B.O.S and C.M.S ( 15th May 2025 BLOG)

Things are starting to get busy with three events on this past weeks schedule. So, with a shortage of spare time, the track reports this week will be brief.

It all starts on the 8th of May with a regular Thursday night trip to the Airborne Park Speedway, with Don Simpson. He picked me up at the usual time of 3-00 pm , and we were soon over the International Bridge into New York and heading to Plattsburgh.

It was a regular night of racing apart from an added Renegade feature , rain-delayed from the previous week.

The Modifieds and Sportsman topped the bill, with Limited Sportsman, Renegades and Mini Stocks as the support divisions.

The make up feature for the Renegades started the night.

This was won by Shawn Duquette.

Once this was done it was time for the regular nights heat races, that were followed by a short intermission.

It was then feature time with the Modifieds up first.

Justin Stone dominated this one .

He took the lead early and stayed there until the checkers.

The Sportsman feature had no surprises.

Once again it was Donovan Lussier with another feature win.

It was done nice and early, so we made a quick exit and we were back to Cornwall at 11-00.

Friday was a washout everywhere, with rain canceling all my do-able events. RPM in Quebec, and the three New York tracks of Albany-Saratoga, Can Am and Brewerton.

Things were a lot better for Saturday and the Brockville Ontario Speedway season opener.

It was a lovely sunny day as I drove down there in the Impala with the sun roof open .

There were five divisions on the program, Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman , Crate Sprint Cars and Mini Stocks .

The first feature of the night was for the Mini Stocks.

It was Marc Dagenais who won this one.

It’s always a lot of fun when Marc is in Victory Lane. Here he is lifting Tim Baltz into the air

Next up, it was the Modifieds

Big winner in the Modifieds was Chris Raabe who managed to stay up front right to the end, once he passed early leader Steve Bernier.

The Limited Sprint Car feature then followed.

This was won by Marc Surprenant , who just happens to be the Sprint Car Series sponsor.

The Sportsman were next

We got a new face in Victory Lane , when first time visitor , Jacob Nadeau , from Yamaska, Quebec took the checkers .

Time was starting to march on, so I decided to miss the last race of the night.

In my absence Tessa Riemersma took the win

The weather stayed warm and dry on Sunday for the Mothers Day season opener at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

As usual, I was there early and got my stuff all set up on the middle.

There were a few extra ‘togs’ in attendance . One of which was Brody Plotz, who caught Don and I , in discussion.

We had the usual divisions in attendance , 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Mini Stocks . As well as this we had a couple of Sprint cars , doing a few practice hot-laps in readiness for the following weeks World of Outlaw show.

After the heat races and before the intermission, we had the Rookie Sportsman feature. This was dominated by Bryan Tarbell

With it being Mothers Day, we took a special shot with him and his former racing mother Claudia.

After the intermission the Pro Stock feature was up first.

Veteran Pro Stocker Denis Gauvreau took this one..

The Modified feature then followed

Samuel Charland of Victoriaville , Quebec was the winner of this one.

The Ministock feature came next

This was won by Antioine Dumouchel.

The final race of the night was the Sportsman feature which got off to a bad start with a wreck on turn four. All drivers were OK .

Once the track was cleared and racing resumed, Shane Pecore worked his way to the front to collect the checkers

That was it, the 2025 season opener at the Cornwall Motor Speedway was in the books.

As mentioned in my last BLOG, we recently lost OVIDE DOIRON, who was once a local top racer who I got to know when I first became interested in Dirt Modified racing 30 years ago.

It was his funeral in his home town of Alexandria , on Wednesday the 14th of May and I went along with my buddy Ron Morin, to pay our respects .
