RICK @ the RACES ( 10/11 Dec 2012)
Another week goes by, at this time of year when there is very little racing going on. It’s too damp for regular events and too early for ice racing.
This past weekend I would have liked to have been back in my old stomping ground of Milton Keynes in England.
Located, about a one hour drive north of London and not far from the Silverstone Circuit , it also happens to be the base for the F1 Grand Prix , World Championship winning team of Red Bull. To celebrate this years achievements the City of MK put on a a ‘RED BULL HOME RUN’ event where the streets were closed to honor the local hero’s .
‘Red Bull’ the name given to the Austrian owned energy beverage company have backed various disciplines of auto racing in the recent past, including NASCAR and the World of Outlaws, but the F1 side of the operation is the one that has hit the headlines.
In the last few years they have become the team to beat, and their driver Sebastian Vettel, is currently regarded as the World’s number one.
Midsomer Boulevard in the city center was closed as Vettel and Mark Webber drove their F1’s, while David Coultard drove a NASCAR stock car of Brian Vickers in front of thousands of adoring fans. I lived in the MK area for many years and would have loved to have been there!
There were many videos of the event on U Tube, here are a couple
Before signing off, I have to mention a ‘non-racing’ event that happened this past week to Abby Stewart, daughter of Todd, my 358 Modified Driver friend. She’s a very talented singer and was appearing at the K Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario. Check out this video. This young lady has an awesome voice !
