RICK @ the RACES (2 to 21 March 2015)
14 March Motorsports Expo, Syracuse NY
21 March Cornwall Motor Speedway Banquet.
After a long hard Ontario winter it was good to be heading a bit further south for the annual Motor Sports Expo in Syracuse that’s held at the New York State Fairgrounds. For many years this show was known by race fans as the ‘Gator Show’,reffering to the famous racing paper that organized it. The Gator Racing News ceased publication soon after last years show, but I’m pleased to say, that the owners, the Patrick Family are continuing with the Expo.
I took a leisurely drive down there in the HHR, stopping at the McDonalds in Adams NY for lunch with my friend Dawn Kamff, who works close by. After a good chat with her, I was soon back on the road, arriving at the fairgrounds around 2-00 pm.
As usual there was a quality turn out of racing equipment on display, and many friends to socialize with.
After spending most of the afternoon there, I began the journey home, stopping off for supper at the Tilted Kilt in Watertown, before heading back to Canada.
My long winter has become easier by the ‘Cinderella’ hockey story that’s been taking place.
For most of the season, ‘my’ team, the Ottawa Senators had been playing lousy, and the chances of advancing to the Stanley Cup Playoffs looked like an impossibility until the end of February when their luck began to change. With both regular goal tenders injured, they were forced to use an ‘un known’ Andrew Hammond from the minor leagues. It soon became obvious , he was a great goalie and the Sens began to win games. Hammond became a local hero and got nick-named ‘The Hamburgular’.
As we got closer to the end of the season, there was a slight chance of a play-off spot, if only they could just creep past nearest contender, the Boston Bruins.
The following week the Cornwall Motor Speedway Banquet was on my agenda, and as usual I was there to take pics of the presentation pics.
Once again the event took place in nearby Long Sault and lots of fun was had by all.
