RICK @ the RACES ( 10 to 18 April 2015)
M.I.R Banquet and Media Events
Since returning to Canada from Texas in the early hours of Friday 10 April, almost straight away, I was out taking race car pictures. I was scheduled to work this day, but my flight delays caused me to take an extra day off. After getting back home to Cornwall, Ontario at 3-00 am, and finally getting to bed about 4-0 am I slept until mid morning.
After lunch I took the short five minute drive, to the Cornwall Square Mall, where former Cornwall Motor Speedway announcer, Brian Mulligan had organized a small display promoting the Mohawk International Raceway NY.
The M.I.R, although located in the U.S.A is just across the border and frequented by many Canadians.
On Saturday 11 April , I had two events on my agenda, as well as watching on TV the Final Ottawa Senators game of the season. They had won again on Thursday night against the New York Rangers and the final game against the Philadelphia Flyers could clinch them a coveted Play Off spot for the Stanley Cup.
My first port of call on Saturday, was the Home and Leisure Show at the Cornwall City Complex. Ray Lavergne was there manning a booth for the Cornwall Motor Speedway and the Brian McDonald Dirt Modified was on display.
The ‘Sens’ game against the ‘Flyers’ was an afternoon game and after a quick update from Ray (also a ‘Sens’ fan) I returned home to watch them take the win. The Ottawa Senators were in the Stanley Cup Playoffs !
Saturday night it was the Mohawk International Raceway , Banquet and Awards night at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and Resort, Hogansburg , New York. I went along to take some pictures and enjoy an excellent night.
One week later, on Saturday 18 April , it was the turn of the Brockville Ontario Speedway to show the public what was on offer, with their CHEO (Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario) fund raiser at the big Walmart Store in the city.
The store, located beside Highway 401 had about a dozen Dirt Modifieds on display while Burgers and other hot food were sold to raise money.
To add to this, Ambush, the popular local band were doing a live gig on a temporary stage. This was the second time the B.O.S had put on an event like this at Walmart , and once again it was a great success.
