RICK @ the RACES (31 July to 3 Aug 2015)
31 July Brockville Ontario Speedway, W.O.O Sprints (RAIN)
2 Aug Cornwall Motor Speedway.
It’s three weeks now, since I was discharged (13 July) from the Ottawa Civic Hospital following my treatment to fight off a Myasthenia Gravis diagnosis.
Since last weeks report, my condition has been pretty stagnant , and I have no improvements for the better to mention. I guess it will be a long job !
On Friday last, the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars were in my neck of the woods, at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, following their visit two days earlier to the Oshweken Speedway in the south-western part of the province.
At Oshweken, history was made when Stewart Friesen became, only the second Canadian to win a W.O.O Series event. Driving his wife Jessica’s car, while she is expecting their first child, he took the 1Z to a very popular win. Many of us Canadian’s were hoping for the ‘double’ at the B.O.S.

I was offered a ride to the B.O.S with my buddy , former Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter, Ron Morin. We left his place at about 5-00 pm , then after a nice supper at the Swiss Chalet in Brockville, we got to the speedway just as time trials were taking place. As we arrived and parked his truck on the center, the sky became darker in the distance, and we feared what might be in store.
Following the Sprint Car time trials , the evenings back-up division, the Vintage Mods took to the track for their warm ups. It was about this point, that the black clouds that we’d seen on the horizon, were now above us, and the wet stuff began.

The rain got heavier, then stopped for a while. They began tracking packing , and then the rain started up again. It was pretty obvious, the night was ‘toast’ so Ron and I made our way back to Cornwall.
While , Ron and I were at the B.O.S getting wet, our local track , the Mohawk International Raceway just across the bridge from Cornwall, managed to escape the rain. Thanks to Andy Watts for sending me the Victory pics.
Louie Jackson Jr won the Sportsman Feature,
While Tim Fuller took the Modified Feature.
The W.O.O at Brockville had been part of a two day show, with an Ogilvees Series for the 358 Mods and Sportsman taking place on Saturday.
I’m still under doctors orders to take it easy, and I have very little energy, so had decided in advance to miss this one . The weather forecast had also predicted more rain for Brockville, as well as Drummondville in Quebec where the W.O.O were heading for Saturday night.
I followed things on-line at home, and as expected, the World of Outlaws got rained out again up in Drummondville.
Brockville also got rain , but they were able to get the show in, once it stopped.

Gage Morin was the winner in the Oglivees Series for Mods and Dylan Evoy did likewise in the Sportsman.

On Saturday night I was also following what was going on over in England, at the Coventry Stadium. Seems like there was plenty of action taking place with the BriSCA F1’s , judging from this pic, my friend Ant Jenkins took.
With my health issues, as they are, I decide what I’m doing and where I go at the last minute, and on Sunday this was how it was. I arrived just before the start time at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, and like last week, based my self in a chair, high up in the V.I.P Pit Tower.

There is a good view of everywhere from up there, and I was hoping for some good pics. As well as the regular divisions, a series race for the Go Nuclear Late Models was taking place.
As many people are aware, my good friend and co-founder of this web site, Craig Revelle passed away last fall, and one of our mutual buddies was Adam Turner. Adam has raced all kinds of things over the years , and at present is driving Late Models. He turned up that night with a superb tribute to our lost buddy.
Sylvain Lauwers is still covering for me as official track photographer at the track , and have to thank him for the Victory Lane pics.
I knew it was going to be a long night with a full program and a 150 lapper for Mods, so decided to make my exit after the heat races.
Lee Gill was the Late Model feature winner
and Billy Dunn took the 150 lapper. Carey Terrance was second while Danny O’Brien in the spare Mario Clair car came home third.

My original plans for this first week of August ( before my sickness) were to head out on a road trip for three days of SUPER DIRT SERIES racing. The Merrittille Speedway and Ransomville Speedway’s in the Niagara region on Monday and Tuesday, then Thursday at Weedsport NY.
There was a surprise win at Merrittville when young Matt Williamson got his first Big Block series win.
Then next day , Ransomeville fell foul to wet weather ! and as for Weedsport, you will have to see next weeks report to find out who won there.
Good day to you Rick.Ihope you are feeling some better each day.My daughter also has Myasthenia Gravis.Myself I have been going to stock car races for over 55 years.I have spoken with you in the past.Keep up the great road to feeling better.
As a fellow race fan
