9 April Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Weedsport NY
After a winter of standing around on frozen rivers and lakes watching ice racing , it was great to be back on dry land for the start of the north eastern DIRT racing season.
I drove down to Weedsport NY , to the Cayuga County Fair Speedway to see the opener for STREET STOCKS , DIRT SPORTSMAN and DIRT MODIFIEDS which consisted of most of the sports top guys . 
On a sunny but slightly chilly day we were treated to a slick presentation , that started at 2-00pm and was over by 4-15pm, which is just perfect for this time of year. 
The SPORTSMAN feature was won by 2005 SUPER DIRT SERIES winner Russ Hefti 
, with Justin Haers taking the victory in the 50lap MODIFIED event. 
It makes a refreshing change to see a different face holding the checkers, and even nicer when it`s some one you know personally.
I’ve known Justin and his crew since his first season in the 358 SUPER DIRT SERIES, when I helped him and a few other drivers, find there way through the streets of Ottawa on their way to Autodrome Edelweiss.
Following Justin across the line was Danny Johnson # 27J with Matt Shepherd # 44 in third.
