RICK @ the RACES (LAVILTRIE, QUEBEC 3rd FEB 2007 )
Originally I had no plans to go racing this weekend as my daughter Carla, who now lives in Texas was paying me a visit.
I’d thought that the CMRC ice races at St Sulpice, near to Montreal, Quebec, (which I attended last year) were going to be on, but had decided to give them a miss.
At about the same time I heard , that for this year, the venue had been re-located to nearby Laviltrie, Carla told me she’d like to visit Montreal. So, “an hour or two at the races” , was added to our itinerary.
After window shopping in the City , along down town St Catherine Street in the morning, we headed out to the track, arriving at 2-00pm in time for the scheduled car racing which was part of the weekend event that included ATV’s and motorcycle speedway.
The three heats , around a course of approx , one mile, were qualifiers for Sundays big races and consisted of some “ top quality” ice racing equipment .
Following the cars were the bikes, which have got to be one of the scariest forms of racing I’ve seen. After a warm up in the food tent , our day out, ended with a trip to the Casino De Montreal ( located beside the Circuit Jaques Villeneuve ) followed by an excellent buffet supper at the La Stanza on Boul Marcel Lauren.
