RICK @ the RACES (30 Nov to 2 Dec 2012)
This weeks report will be another short one , following my second consecutive weekend with no racing events to attend. That’s probably how things will be for the next few weeks until January, when hopefully there will be some ice racing events taking place. Until then I will be trying my best to get the ‘RETRO’ Reports brought up to 2006, when the ‘Weekly Reports’ begin. Once that’s been completed, all of my years around the tracks should be documented.
Normally, at this time of year, I would have used one of these quiet weeks to watch an Ottawa Senators game, but the ridiculous NHL dispute has spoiled that idea.
My hockey fix for this winter comes from watching the occasional Cornwall Colts JrA game, and last Friday night I took off for one of their away games, to see them play against the Brockville Braves.
It was a close contest and after the final period the game was a tie. No deciding goal came in overtime, and the match had to be decided by a penalty shoot out. I’ve never agreed with deciding the result of a game this way, whether it’s in hockey or in football (soccer to my North American friends) so I didn’t stay to watch it the outcome.
As mentioned above, the rest of my weekend was spent researching for the ‘RETRO’ reports and episode # 30 covering 1996 is now up and loaded on www.rickattheraces.com. That’s the year I got to see the Daytona International Speedway for the first time.
Before signing off for this week, I just want to say ‘Congrats’ to two of my good racing friends , Stewart Friesen and Jessica Zemken, who announced their engagement this week. I’ve known them both for quite a few years, and I’d just like to send my good wishes for the future.
