25 Jan   Kahnawake Marina , Quebec

Back in January 2008, I visited the Kahnawake Marina in Quebec for an ice racing event. It was for competition prepared compact sports sedans, and they raced on a ‘road course’ type circuit.

It recently came to my attention that ‘big banger’ V8 sedans were racing there each Saturday on an ice oval configuration, and the postings on Face Book had reported fields of about 30 cars.

This past Saturday ( 25 Jan) , I went along to investigate and take a few pics for my gallery.kahn 2 14

For those that don’t know, Kahnawake is on the Mohawk reserve, along side the St Lawrence Seaway in Montreal. English language is very predominant , so it’s very refreshing to go there, and not have to deal with all the Francophone Language regulations which Quebec suffers from these days.kahn1 14

I got there nice and early , and while waiting for the racing to start I kept warm in the Marina Kitchen and Bar with one of their delicious Pulled Pork Sandwichs and some Hot Chocolate.

The Face Book reports were correct and there was a good turn out of over 25 cars that took to the ( aprox) 3/8 mile ice oval. After getting enough pics to put in the gallery, I was on my way home.

Finaly, before finishing this weeks report, I’d just like to mention the sad news I heard from England this week.

AL HENDERSON , one of the nicest guys I ever met in the UK stock car fraternity passed away this week. For many years Al was BriSCA’s number one ‘Mr Starter’, and over the course of time he put his hand to many other duties connected with the sport.

In later years I regularly connected with him at the various VSCA (Veteran Stock Car Association) functions until I emigrated to Canada in 1994.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with him once again in 2012 when we both attended the Coventry BriSCA F1 races, celebrating the launch of the Willie Harrison book, The Harrison Dynasty

Al , you were a real gent , and will be missed by many
