RICK @ the RACES ( 23 Feb 2014)
I’ve not much to report this week , as most of my Sunday was spent watching TV.
I was up bright and early to watch the 7-00am start of the Olympic Hockey Finals between Canada and Sweden that was being broadcast live from Sochi in Russia. Like so many other Canadians I was glued to the TV set watching our team get the hockey gold for the second time running, with a 3-0 win.
Next up for my Sunday TV diet, was the start of the Daytona 500 from Florida in the USA scheduled for around 1-00 pm .
I’m not a big NASCAR fan but always try to make a special date to watch this race. ( well , I guess it’s “ any port in a storm” at this time of year, when the good stuff on my local dirt tracks has yet to get begin) This event generally heralds the start of racing, south of the border, and like most other race fans, it grabs my interest.
I made my self comfy on the couch and watched as the race got under way. Before ten laps were complete , I’d dozed off to sleep and it wasn’t until about lap 35 that I awoke, just as the rain had come in, and caused a stoppage.
Bad weather continued for much of the afternoon, and it wasn’t until about 8-30 in the evening that the race was able to continue.
This time the action was enough to keep me awake, and in the end, it turned out to be a pretty good race, with Dale Earnhardt Jnr getting a very popular win , after a long absence from Victory Lane.
