29 March 2014 Akwesasne NY, Mohawk Int’l Raceway Banquet.
Last weekend the banquet season kicked off at my local tracks, with the Mohawk International Raceway starting things off on Saturday 29 March. ( Next week it’s the turn of the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Friday 4 April and the Cornwall Motor Speedway on Saturday 5 April ).
The M.I.R held theirs at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, and I decided to make a night of it, by staying overnight in the luxurious Hotel. That meant, after the awards and supper were over, I could have a few beers , chat amongst friends and have flutter on the gaming machines.
While taking my pics, I had a good chance to talk to my buddy, Andy Watts, who covers both M.I.R and the Airborne Speedway ( Plattsburgh NY ) with his photography . There have been some changes at Plattsburgh, (his local track) during the closed season, and as a result, my friend Mike Perrotte is no longer there in the role of track manager. Mike worked hard, and put the tidy paved track back on the map, with the introduction of the Dirt Style Modifieds. It made it one of the few asphalt speedways that, me and many other Dirt Modified fans, enjoyed visiting. At this stage , I’m not sure what plans are in store from the new management team, but I’m hoping they don’t change things too much. No doubt, Andy and the media will keep me up to date.
The Banquet was over by 8-30 and after watching the Leafs get beaten by the Red Wings on TV in one of the bars, I became a big spender and gambled away ten bucks on the one cent fruit machines .
Then it was back to my Hotel room for a good nights sleep.
