22 March Thunder in the 1000 Islands Car Show. Clayton . NY
This past weekend , I went along to a new racing expo in my part of the world when I attended the “Thunder in the 1000 Islands Car Show” at Clayton NY.
Although, Clayton is less than two hours away from my base in Cornwall, Ontario, it’s a town I’d never been to before. It lies along the USA side of the St Lawrence Seaway, west of the 1000 Islands Bridge.
I left home mid morning on Saturday and after crossing into the USA at the Ogdensburg Bridge , I drove beside the Seaway down to Alexandria Bay, and on to Clayton. By now it was lunchtime, and seeing as I’d never been to this place before, I first went to do a bit of exploring down at the tourist area by the waterfront in search of a place to eat. I ended up at the Koffee Kove Restaurant , where I had an excellent Hot Beef sandwich and a pot of tea.
With my hunger issues taken care of , I drove the short distance up the road to the Clayton Arena, where the show was taking place. At the door I met up with Chip Burdick, of the nearby Can Am Speedway , who was also one of the organizers of this event.
Once inside, the first exhibit to catch my eye was the Finish Line Web Design Kart of Brandon Revelle, and his uncle Craig.
There were plenty of cars from both paved and dirt tracks crammed into the small arena. so soon made myself busy taking pictures. Amongst the local machinery on display were the cars of Chris Thurston, Zach Aubertine and 2013 Syracuse winner Billy Dunn.
After getting my pics, I sat down to watch a Kart ‘Teach in’ by reps from the Performance Manufacturing Corp, where I saw how a kart seat was custom fitted (to the Finish Line Kart) . Interesting stuff, I thought !
