RICK @ the RACES (20 to 25 Aug 2015)
Sun 23 Aug Cornwall Motor Speedway SDS Race
Well it’s now 6 weeks since my hospital visit, and after being stuck at home with very little energy to do much, it’s been nice to get the support from some of my close racing friends. There have been many, but I particularly want to mention, Ron Morin and his family, Chanty Lesage, Terry Kelsey and Don Simpson.
I had a nice surprise visit last Thursday from Ron, who was going on a short trip to the St Albert cheese factory, to collect some curds for, wife Reina’s “Happy Day’s food trailer. As you’d expect, I had nothing to do so , took him up on his offer, of a ride out. It was my first time visit there, and was very impressed, at the way it’s been made into a tourist attraction. We were there at lunch time, and had some of their speciality poutines. We were back home in Cornwall soon after lunch, in time for another of my racing friends to pay a visit. Terry had called, saying he was going to be in town, and did I want to meet for a ‘Timmies’ . We met up at the Tim Hortons on Brookdale Ave for a chat.
At the weekend, my condition, caused me to miss out once more on my usual Friday night at the Mohawk International Raceway and Saturday at the Brockville Ontario Speedway,
So again I’m relying on my photographer friend Andy Watts (MIR)
The good news I heard from the M.I.R was that my good friend Bruce Makinson got his first Victory in the Sportsman Division, Congrats Bruce and Lynda,
While Chris Raabe was the Modified winner
I don’t have pics from the B.O.S , but it was Danny O’Brien in Victory Lane for the Mods and Dylan Evoy in the Sportsman.
On Sunday the SUPER DIRT SERIES for Big Block Mods returned to the Cornwall Motor Speedway, after getting rained out earlier in the season.
As well as the SDS race and regular program, the Patriot Sprints, also rained out earlier in the year, were added to the night.
I had no intention of being at the track all night, as my daughter Carla was flying in from Texas, but wanted to be there early to catch up with friends. The first people I met up with were my photographer friends, Alex and Helen Bruce from St Catherines, Ont. I hung out with them until Carla arrived, straight from Ottawa Airport. We all took a position up on the VIP tower, for the warm ups and time trials, before Carla and I made our exit.
With more doctors appointments approaching, she was back to accompany me.
While Carla and I were back home at my place, Brett Hearn went on to win the big race of the night. Thanks to Alex for the Pics .
As mentioned, I have more appointments with the medics, coming up, so the next Rick At The Races Report, will most likely , be in a week or two’s time.
